Advent: a time of prepration

advent wreathSunday 2nd December marks the beginning of the season of Advent – a time to prepare not just for the annual celebration of Jesus’ birth at Christmas, but also a time to think about preparing for his second coming at the end of all things.
In church we use the themes of light and darkness to reflect on how we can prepare ourselves and the world around us to make God welcome.
The Ground Floor Group’s Reflections for Advent  is a useful downloadable resources, or you may wish to use SPCK’s new advent weekly reflections.  The Archbishop of Canterbury is also doing a series of daily podcasts during Advent, which you can download from the Church of England’s website.

You are also warmly invited to:

Advent Quiet Day
Thursday 6 December, 10.30am-4pm
25 Perry Road, Buckden
‘Stay a while and rest a while’
A guided day of thought and meditation to ponder
the deeper meaning and relevance of this time of year.

Supporting the A1 Church – sponsored book launch

28th October 2012 was Bible Sunday and the occasion for our very own ‘sponsored book launch’ of By the skin of its teeth,a useful and entertaining Bible resource. Each of the sixty-six books, from Genesis to Revelation, is briefly introduced, using catch phrases from the King James Bible. If you would like a launch copy, Richard Noble (the author) is giving one to each person making a sponsorship donation to support St Mary’s welcome ministry to journeyers on the A1 who stop off to visit the church.

You can see a preview of the book here, and read some endorsements and reviews, too.
