St Mary’s will be there – will you?
Buckden Village Festival takes place from Friday 5th to Sunday 7th July, with a range of events involving as much of the local community as possible. Why not visit the official BVF website for more information on what’s on and how to get involved?
NB Due to the Festival Service at 10.30am on Sunday 7th July in the Village Hall there will be no 10.30am service in St Mary’s that day – please do spread the word.
St Mary’s will be taking part by:
- Helping the school Summer Fayer crown making stall – enabling all local children to make and decorate a crown that they can wear over the weekend’s festivities.
- decorating one of the pieces of the giant crown (Children’s Church are handling this, and we look forward to seeing their creative work on display as the crown moves round the village on the float on the morning of Saturday 6th July)
- working with Buckden & District Churches Together to run a stall on the Playing Field on the afternoon of Saturday 6th July, with games and activities for all ages.
- Organising the Buckden & District Churches Together service at 10.30am on Sunday 7th July in the Buckden Millennium Village Hall.
Please do get involved – contact Revd Ally or Anne Carter if you would like to help with the stalls or in any other way. We hope to see you there!
St Mary’s is open every day between about 9am and 5pm, and everyone is welcome to come in to enjoy the beauty of the building, the opportunity for prayer, or simply time to be still.
We now have a newly refurbished ‘Quiet room’ at the back of the church, which has comfy chairs, a CD player and selection of relaxing music, some books, and other aids to reflection. Anyone is welcome to make use of this room at any time.
We also have kitchen and toilet facilities in the Living Stones Room in St Mary’s, so that you can stay as long as you like.
Six of our children will be admitted as communicant members of the Church of England this Sunday (23rd June). This means that they will receive the bread and wine at Holy Communion. They have worked really hard during their preparation course, and are all very excited. This means a huge amount to them, so please do remember them all in your prayers.
Thank you to all who came along to St Mary’s Buckden for the organ recital on Saturday 15th June, which was given by our very own Dr Sam Barrett.
Sam is not only our vicar’s husband, he is also Director of Music at Pembroke College, Cambridge, and a Senior Lecturer in Music at the University of Cambridge.
