So wrote Lancelot Andrewes in a Christmas sermon, and so quoted T S Eliot centuries later. Tonight, as we prepare to re-tell the story of the journey to Bethlehem undertaken by Mary and Joseph, we remember in prayer all who travel on the roads in the current stormy conditions.
Heavenly Father,
You kept Mary and Joseph,
and the shepherds and the Magi
safe on their journeys;
Hear our prayer for those who travel
in perilous conditions on our roads;
hear our prayer for the emergency services
who seek to help those in trouble;
hear our prayer for all those who are far from home tonight.
In Jesus’s name.
Amen.
