May at St Mary’s Buckden

As the new month starts, we find ourselves in a new phase of life at St Mary’s. The last Sunday Service in April was Jes and Jane’s last Sunday with us. Although a social gathering to bid them farewell was not possible, there were gifts and speeches given at the end of the service.  If you missed it, the recorded service is still available on YouTube St Mary’s Buckden. Jes & Jane go with our love and prayers and will be very much missed by everyone here.

We are now in a vacancy (or interregnum) until a new Priest in Charge can be appointed. We have taken the opportunity of this vacancy to invite some guests to lead our services alongside our own retired clergy and lay ministers.

To start us off, on Sunday 2nd May we are pleased to welcome Archdeacon Hugh McCurdy to lead our 11am service.  Please book in advance by emailing David.pickavance1@outlook.com.  Social distancing measures are still in place, so please comply, always wear a mask in church and remember that numbers are limited. The service will also be streamed via YouTube St Mary’s Buckden.

St Mary’s chosen charity for May-June is Godmanchester Foodbank.
We support Godmanchester Foodbank throughout the year, but for the months of May and June we are trying to give a little extra support and to raise awareness. https://godmanchester.foodbank.org.uk/

In memory of HRH Prince Philip.

On Sunday 11th April, our 11am service at St Mary’s will be a communion service in memory of HRH Prince Philip.

The St Mary’s Annual Meetings will follow, as planned, at 12 noon.

St Mary’s will then be open from 1pm-2pm for private prayer and reflection.

As the Palace has requested, people should, where possible, donate to charity rather than leaving floral or other tributes. If you do decide to leave a floral tribute in Buckden, please would you lay it at the War Memorial in the churchyard?
