The beginning of this month is very busy with special events:- World Day of Prayer on the 1st, Annual Auction and MAGPAS Fundraiser both on the 2nd, Mad March Munchies at Spiceland on the 7th and a concert from HBK Rising Stars on the 9th. Please note that there will be no cleaning crew and no coffee and cakes on the 2nd but there is the Community Café on the 13th and a churchyard tidy on the 16th – please come along with your tools and lend a hand.
Why not join us this Lent and learn about The Beatitudes? There are various options from group study (lunchtime or evening) and individual study (booklets to order and free downloads to sign-up to) as we all learn more about the beatitudes.

HELP PLEASE – on display at the back of church (behind the font) are signup sheets and application forms for various volunteer roles within St Mary’s. Please consider whether you might be able fulfil any of these roles and chat to Jes or the churchwardens if you would like more information.
This year we have to create a new Electoral Roll (our list of members) so please fill in a form Application-for-Enrolment-Electoral-Roll and return it to the churchwardens, to email@example.com (or the box at the back of church) before 17th March if you haven’t already done so.
Our Annual Parochial Church Meeting & Election of Churchwardens is on Sunday 14th April 2019 at 12.15am and will be followed by a BRING & SHARE LUNCH. All are welcome to the meetings and the lunch. Those on the church or civic electoral roll may vote in the election of churchwardens. Those on the church electoral roll may vote in the PCC elections.
Easter Lilies. As usual, St Mary’s will be decorated for Easter with lilies donated by people in memory of loved ones. There will be lists at the back of church and instructions for payment from 17th March to 8th April.

What a fabulous start to December. The church was a hive of activity all weekend long. Thank you to everyone who came on Saturday to help with the cleaning, decorate the Christmas tree, receive and display the wreaths, provide the refreshments.
On Sunday our knitted nativity sets set-off during the morning’s Advent Sunday Service; we were open during the afternoon of the Buckden Christmas Market & Lights to welcome visitors to the Wreath Festival, children to the craft workshops, singers from Buckden School. Thanks to everyone who visited & everyone who helped.
The Wreath Festival continues throughout December, please come and take a look.
Don’t forget to sponsor a memory bauble this year – £3 from The Flower Boutique, The Salon on the Green and Buckden Preschool
Our next events involve coffee, the Annual Christmas Coffee Morning at the Village Hall on the 5th and The Community Café in St Mary’s on the 12th. Please come and join us for a cuppa
Our Special Services for Christmas start on Saturday 9th December with Christingle. See below for a full list of Christmas Services. Please come and share in the celebration.
St Mary’s chosen charity for November-December is Mission Aviation Fellowship (MAF) www.maf-uk.org For 70 years, MAF has been flying for life
In today’s ‘connected world’, the irony is that never have so many people been so isolated. Flying onto desert and jungle airstrips, lakes and rivers, tracks and roads, MAF’s light aircraft and their mission pilots go the extra miles to provide a lifeline. They fly medical, relief and life-transforming help to vulnerable people in hard-to-reach places. They need our prayers and financial support.

Our chosen Charity for November-December is DEC East Africa Crisis Appeal www.dec.org.uk/appeal/east-africa-crisis-appeal Hunger on a massive scale is looming across East Africa. Drought and conflict have left 19 million people in urgent need of food, water and medical treatment. People are already dying in South Sudan and Somalia. In Kenya and Ethiopia, water shortages caused by drought are severe and likely to worsen. Women, children and older people are suffering the most; half a million children under five are at risk of dying from severe acute malnutrition and require immediate lifesaving treatment. Diseases such as cholera and measles are spreading fast, as more people flee fighting and are forced to live in poor overcrowded conditions. DEC member charities are responding to the crisis and delivering life-saving aid. But, they need more money to help reduce the scale and severity of the crisis.
