October at St Mary’s

The exciting news this month is the new youth club youth@thetowers which starts at Buckden Towers on Thursday 4th October. There’s a facebook group “Buckden Youth Club” to join for regular updates

St Mary’s chosen charity for September-October is BLOODWISE
Gary Wells cycled in the London to Paris event this year and successfully completed it. See the various items for this in our display in church. Our target is £1,000.   So far we have reached just over £400, so hope if you have not already supported this activity that you will consider doing so during October. All you have to do is take a BLOODWISE envelope from the stand, complete the details and then place it in the wall safe.

Dusters at the ready! Come and join the cleaning crew
Saturday 6th October (and every 1st Saturday) from 10am
Our recent plea for help with church cleaning has resulted in several initiatives
– weekly cleaning will continue but only a few areas are covered this way
– Cleaning Crew will now run every month on the 1st Saturday. Please join in.
– brass cleaning has been allocated to specific people / groups
– cleaning prior to weddings/funerals/events. Several people have signed up to help with this and will be called as and when required

Churchyard Tidy for Remembrance Saturday
13th October 10am – noon with free cup of coffee/juice.
All welcome, especially the younger active families. Bring your own tools.

For more information about all events in October, have a look at this month’s newsletter. A copy can be viewed here 1810 Newsletter Oct-2018 or you can see all recent newsletters on this website under the INFO tab

Dusters at the ready! Come and join the cleaning crew

Dusters at the ready! Come and join the cleaning crew
Saturday 1st September from 10am
For many years we have benefited from a dedicated team who have cleaned the church every week. Sadly, numbers have dwindled and new volunteers have not been forthcoming.
We’ve been looking at new ways to get the work done and share the load between us:-
– some people will still clean specific areas every week
– some people will come in to clean ready for special occasions: weddings etc
– some people will be responsible for specific tasks such as brass cleaning
The Cleaning Crew will run every month on the first Saturday.  Everyone is encouraged to come along and join in.  All help is welcome as we share the load and share our company too. Coffee/tea & cakes are on always offer to feed the workers.
