St Mary’s is a family-friendly church; you and your children are very welcome here at any time. Every Sunday we have a family service at 11am. We also run various children’s services, clubs and events through the year.
We have close links with our village school, Buckden CE Primary Academy, where Rev Jes is involved with collective worship each week, we have two Foundation Governors and many of the congregation are involved as helpers, parents and as pupils of the school. Buckden CE Primary academy was rated as Outstanding in a 2017 Statutory Inspection of Anglican & Methodist Schools (SIAMS). You can view the report here Buckden SIAMS report June 2017CR1. This was in addition to the Outstanding rating from Ofsted.
Groups from the primary school, nursery and pre-school playgroup visit St Mary’s for their own services to celebrate each of the main church festivals (Christmas, Easter, Harvest) and for educational visits at other times during the year.
Buckden & District Churches Together are running a series of children / family activity workshops
ALL-AGE SERVICE on the 4th Sunday of each month at 11.00am. With the whole church family together, this service includes lively music led by *Angel Voices, a talk suitable for all ages, and plenty to engage both children and adults.
Sunday Club (for younger children) takes place in the Living Stones Room in St Mary’s and Bible Band (for teenagers) takes place in the vicarage during the 11.00am Sunday service every week
(except the 4th Sunday and during the main school holidays).
Children (KS2 and above ) who come to church regularly are able to prepare for Admission to Holy Communion before confirmation.
Confirmation Classes are offered for older children, teens and adults to explore their faith – contact Rev Jes for details on 01480 819377
There is a Children’s Area at the back of the church; a carpeted area for younger children who need to move around a bit during the service. There are toys and books in boxes under the pews in this area. A range of Colouring Books (about Holy Communion, baptism, weddings, and various seasonal themes), colouring sheets and colouring pencils are available.
If you or your child just needs to escape from the main service for a while, you can use the Tower Room at back of church or you are very welcome to come into the Living Stones and join in with Sunday Club.
*Angel Voices is an informal all-age choir which is open to everyone. We practice at 6.45pm on the two Friday evenings prior to the 4th Sunday All-Age Service each month and lead the singing at that service.
