This Sunday, 29th November, is the beginning of Advent, a season of preparation, looking forward to Christmas and the birth of Jesus. At St Mary’s, our stars on the tower will be shining out for all to see. Look out for our outdoor Nativity Scene which will appear in the churchyard during this first week of Advent.
Our online service for Advent Sunday will be available via YouTube and Facebook – St Mary’s Buckden. Please do join us and watch.

Sunday Services in Church will resume from December 6th and Wednesday Communion from the 9th. Please book for Sunday each week with firstname.lastname@example.org or add your name to the list in the porch.
Summer is almost over. At the beginning of this month the children return to school and all the regular groups and events at St Mary’s restart. Towards the end of the month we will be celebrating Harvest Festival.
Cleaning Crew – Please come along and help if you can on Saturday 7th September from 10am
Community Café – in St Mary’s 2.30pm to 4pm Wednesday 11th September.
Our chosen Charity for September and October is Church army https://www.churcharmy.org.uk/ Church army is the Church of England’s very own mission arm for bringing Jesus to the most needy and works in some of the most deprived communities in the UK and Ireland with children, the elderly and everyone in between. Trained Church Army Evangelists are based in parishes and on special projects where the need is greatest. Archbishop Justin Welby says “Church Army exists both to talk to people about Jesus and bring them to faith in Jesus but it also does this extraordinary work of serving the poor and the poorest parts of the country and that speaks to the value of human beings.”
Heritage Open Days this year runs from 13th to 22nd September. St Mary’s will be open to visitors every day but there will be no formal tours .
The Cambridgeshire Historic Churches Ride, Drive & Stride event takes place on Saturday 14th September.

We are well into the New Year and back to routine. All groups and activities have restarted and there is lots going on in the church. Hopefully something for everyone.
Thanks you to everyone who joined us for the Cleaning Crew on Saturday 2nd February, the church is looking lovely. Please note that there will be no organised Cleaning Crew in March, but do feel free to pop with your duster during that first week.
St Mary’s chosen charity for November-December is for January-February is MAGPAS www.magpas.org.uk Magpas Air Ambulance brings crucial lifesaving care by land and air to patients in life-threatening emergencies. Based in Cambridgeshire, their enhanced medical team receives advanced training which allows them to offer procedures and treatments at the scene. They support the ambulance service and give medical care when time is of the essence. This means that the frontline care the team delivers doesn’t just save lives, it helps seriously ill and injured people to return to a good quality of life. Magpas Air Ambulance is not a state-funded service & relies on generous public donations to continue saving lives. Thank you in advance for your generosity. There will be a fund-raising Pamper Afternoon in aid of MAGPAS on Saturday 2nd March at 53 Park Road 2pm – 6pm.

Saturday 1st December is a day of preparation – during that morning, the Cleaning Crew are in, the Christmas Tree arrives (donated by The Flower Boutique Buckden) with its personalised Memory Baubles, the wreaths arrive for the Wreath Festival and Coffee and Cakes are available. Please come along and help, or just join us for coffee and cake.
Sunday 2nd December is Advent Sunday. At our 11am Service, St Mary’s knitted nativity sets start off on their journey around Buckden. There is no evening service this week but St Mary’s will be open all afternoon with lots going on as part of the Buckden Christmas Market and Lights Switch-on event. Come in and see the Wreath Festival, Christmas Tree, enjoy the Children’s craft workshop, have refreshments, hear the children of Buckden School singing.
